Jorge Martín set a new lap record at the Le Mans circuit to secure pole position for the French MotoGP Grand Prix. Before suffering a fall, the Prima Pramac rider clocked a time of 1m29.919s in Saturday’s qualifying, beating Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) by 0.192s.
In an interview with the official broadcast, the Spaniard began by clarifying that he is fine after the incident: ‘I had a small crash and I was hit on the back. But I’m okay’.
Regarding his performance in qualifying, Martín commented: ‘For sure this lap time was amazing, I did enjoy quite a lot. I felt quite good with the hard front [tyre] and I knew my second lap would be the fastest one, so I gave my 100%’.
As for the Sprint race, the championship leader remained optimistic, although he expects strong competition: ‘My rivals are strong for today, so it will be a tough race, but I feel we are fast enough to fight and to battle for that Sprint’.
