Fabio Di Giannantonio injured his left shoulder during the MotoGP Austrian GP in August. However, surgery was not required immediately, and the intervention only took place in early November.
The recovery has been faster than expected in the first few weeks after the surgery. When asked if he thinks he should have undergone the surgery earlier, the Pertamina Enduro VR46 rider replied:
– Well, if I were improving that fast, for sure I would regret a bit missing the last two races. But I think we did it at the right time – because even if this can happen, that I’m recovering faster, I will have the right time to train and be ready for the next season.
That said, Di Giannantonio admitted that he probably won’t be fully recovered physically by the preseason tests, as it’s not just about the injury itself: ‘At the moment, the plan is for sure to do the first official test in Sepang, but for sure I think I’ll not be at 100% physically. Because if you saw me naked at the moment, you would see that I’ve lost a lot of muscles. So, rebuilding those muscles, rebuilding that energy and that stamina, will take a lot of time. So, at the moment I think we did everything at the right time’.
