David Alonso reinforced his status as a favorite for the Moto3 San Marino GP. This morning, the championship leader was the fastest in Practice 2 at Misano, setting a new lap record.
After the initial flying laps, Iván Ortolá (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) held the lead, only to be beaten by José Antonio Rueda (Red Bull KTM Ajo). Within seconds, David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM), Daniel Holgado (Red Bull GasGas Tech3), and Ángel Piqueras also took turns at the top.
It was the Spanish rider from Leopard Racing who managed to consistently hold the lead: he improved on his next lap and stayed in first place for nearly a quarter of an hour until he was overtaken by Alonso (CFMoto Gaviota Aspar).
The Colombian rider then improved again to set a new lap record of 1m40.184s. Rueda improved as well but remained 0.212s behind, followed by Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) at 0.266s. Adrián Fernández (Leopard Racing/Honda) and Ortolá rounded out the top five with identical times, ahead of Piqueras.
Only two riders did not improve their times compared to yesterday’s Practice 1, and neither was in the running for direct qualification to the second qualifying. The last rider to secure direct entry, with the 14th fastest time, was Jacob Roulstone (Red Bull GasGas Tech3), 0.127s ahead of 15th-placed Tatsuki Suzuki (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP).
