Texas Rangers Pitching Prospects Shine at Fall Stars Game

Three Texas Rangers pitchers have risen to prominence, earning spots in the Arizona Fall League’s prestigious Fall Stars Game on Sunday in Mesa, Arizona. The selections highlight their impressive performances, even though they will not take the mound during the showcase.

Rangers’ Rising Stars

Right-handed pitchers Jose Corniell, Winston Santos, and Emiliano Teodo have been selected to represent the American League team in this weekend’s event. All three are currently playing for the Surprise Saguaros and are ranked among the Rangers’ Top 30 prospects according to MLB Pipeline, with Corniell at No. 3, Santos at No. 4, and Teodo at No. 14.

The Fall Stars Game is set to kick off at 7 p.m. Central Time on Sunday and will be available for viewing on MLB Network and MLB.com. However, due to their pitching schedules, none of the selected pitchers will participate in the actual game, a decision that reflects the Rangers’ careful management of their young talent.

Impressive Stats and Future Potential

Jose Corniell, 22, has made a significant impact in the Fall League, striking out 17 batters over 15 innings across four appearances. His latest outing saw him fan six hitters in just three innings against Salt River. Notably, Corniell has already made his Major League debut this season, albeit in a challenging outing where he took the loss after allowing three hits and four runs (three earned) in 1.2 innings against Cleveland. With a solid minor league season under his belt—boasting a 1-2 record and a 1.89 ERA in 13 starts, culminating with Triple-A Round Rock—Corniell has positioned himself as a contender for next year’s opening day roster. He racked up 41 strikeouts while allowing only nine walks in 38 innings, holding opponents to a .172 batting average.

Winston Santos has also displayed his potential, striking out 15 batters in 14.1 innings over four appearances, including one start. His minor league career is marked by a remarkable strikeout rate, averaging 9.7 strikeouts per nine innings across 78 games since joining the Rangers in 2021. Santos’ ability to generate swings and misses speaks to his effectiveness on the mound.

A Future to Watch

As the Texas Rangers continue to develop their young talent, the selection of Corniell, Santos, and Teodo to the Fall Stars Game serves as a testament to their potential. While they may not pitch in the game itself, their performances in the Arizona Fall League are being closely monitored by the organization and fans alike, as they prepare for what promises to be an exciting future in Major League Baseball.
