Sam Antonacci Stuns White Sox with Remarkable Ascent to South Atlantic League All-Star

Two White Sox Prospects Earn All-Star Honors

Sam Antonacci and Jeral Perez have distinguished themselves this season with the High-A Winston-Salem Dash, earning spots on the South Atlantic League All-Star team. Antonacci, stationed at second base, and Perez, serving as the designated hitter, exemplify the promising talent emerging from the White Sox’s minor league system.

Unexpected Breakout Season

Paul Janish, the White Sox director of player development, recently commented on Antonacci’s impressive performance, highlighting how his rise has taken many by surprise. “A year ago, if we were having this conversation, we would have simply referred to him as an interesting player who plays hard,” Janish noted. “But now, he’s put himself on the map.”

Antonacci’s breakout season has been marked by an impressive .836 OPS at the High-A level. Following his promotion to the Double-A Birmingham Barons, he has continued to shine. In 217 plate appearances with the Barons, Antonacci has posted a stellar slash line of .292/.435/.381/.816, featuring one home run, eight doubles, and an impressive tally of 25 RBIs. Additionally, his speed on the base paths has been noteworthy, with 21 stolen bases this season.

Pivotal Playoff Push

As Antonacci and the Barons gear up for a crucial Division Series Game 3 on Friday night, they are in pursuit of their second consecutive Southern League title. Antonacci’s contributions will undoubtedly be pivotal as the team aims for postseason success.

A Promising Future

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2024 MLB Draft out of Coastal Carolina, Antonacci has quickly made a name for himself within the White Sox organization. His ability to maintain excellent plate discipline has been particularly impressive, as he has accumulated 69 walks and been hit by pitches 35 times, all while striking out only 73 times throughout the season.

As the White Sox continue to rebuild, the emergence of players like Antonacci and Perez showcases the potential that lies within their minor league ranks, offering hope for the future of the franchise.
