Robert Stephenson’s Remarkable Comeback After Injury Struggles

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Robert Stephenson has faced a challenging journey since joining the team ahead of the 2024 season. Most of his time has been spent on the injured list, but recent news offers a glimmer of hope for both him and Angels fans.

Injury Challenges and Recovery

Stephenson’s struggles began with right elbow inflammation, a concerning issue given his previous history with Tommy John surgery. This past season was particularly tough, as the 32-year-old did not pitch a single inning in 2024, spending the entire year sidelined while recovering from the aforementioned surgery. After a lengthy rehabilitation process, he took a month post-season to evaluate his options and prepare for the future.

General manager Perry Minasian recently confirmed that Stephenson is expected to be available at the start of spring training in 2026. This announcement marks a significant turning point in his career, signaling a potential return to the mound after a long, arduous recovery.

A Brief Return to Action

Stephenson made his comeback in May 2025, rejoining the Angels’ bullpen and impressively throwing a perfect inning against the New York Yankees on May 28. However, the celebration was short-lived. In his next appearance, after just three pitches, he exited the game, leading to another stint on the injured list the following day.

Despite these setbacks, Stephenson returned to action in late August, showcasing his resilience by appearing in 10 more games. Unfortunately, the injury bug struck again, as he found himself on the injured list for a final time, leaving fans wondering about the future of his career.

Looking Ahead

As Stephenson prepares for the upcoming season, his story serves as a testament to perseverance in the face of adversity. With the promise of spring training on the horizon, both he and Angels supporters remain hopeful for a successful return to the field. The journey back is never easy, but for Stephenson, the path to redemption is well within reach.
