Reds eye explosive power surge with Adolis García after Rangers non-tender shocker

Reds Pursue Power Boost with Adolis García Following Rangers’ Unexpected Move

The Cincinnati Reds are on the hunt for offensive firepower as they gear up for the 2026 season, and free-agent outfielder Adolis García has emerged as a prime candidate. Recently non-tendered by the Texas Rangers, the decision came as a surprise, particularly given García’s projected salary of around $12 million. With the Reds facing a pressing need for a more potent lineup, let’s explore the potential benefits and drawbacks of bringing García to Cincinnati.

Pros: Power Bat in the Lineup

One of the most glaring deficiencies for the Reds last season was their lack of power. Adding García could significantly enhance the team’s middle-order strength. Over the past five years, he has consistently demonstrated his ability to launch the long ball, hitting 19, 25, 39, 27, and 31 home runs in consecutive seasons. With a move to Great American Ball Park, known for its favorable hitting conditions, García could easily be expected to contribute 25 to 35 home runs.

To put this in perspective, Elly De La Cruz led the Reds with 22 home runs last season, highlighting the gap in power that García could help fill. Despite experiencing some struggles at the plate recently, García continues to make solid contact. His average exit velocity of 92.1 mph places him in the 89th percentile league-wide, underscoring his potential to drive the ball effectively. Additionally, his impressive barrel percentage of 73 and hard-hit percentage of 70 further affirm his status among the league’s most formidable hitters.

Plus Defender in the Outfield

Beyond his offensive capabilities, García brings defensive prowess to the table. He won a Gold Glove in the outfield in 2023, showcasing his ability to cover ground and make critical plays. While his Outs Above Average (OAA) was a modest 1 last season, his overall defensive skill set remains a valuable asset. His combination of offensive and defensive talents could help solidify the Reds’ roster, making him an intriguing option as they seek to bolster their competitive edge.

As the Reds weigh their options, Adolis García stands out not just as a power hitter but also as a capable defender, making him a compelling candidate to address their offensive challenges heading into the new season.
