Jake Elman from Fansided has identified Washington Nationals first baseman Josh Bell as a fitting candidate to fill this gap.

Bell’s Veteran Presence and Power Potential

Bell epitomizes the archetype of a seasoned slugger, potentially commanding a one-year contract in the vicinity of $12 million during the upcoming free agency. Despite a decline in batting average, Bell has showcased his power, launching 20 home runs and boasting an above-average .735 OPS while playing for a struggling Nationals squad. Notably, he has reduced his strikeout percentage to a commendable 16.0%, with a walk rate of 11.0%—his highest since 2022.

Elman emphasizes that Bell’s value extends beyond mere statistics; his durability and leadership qualities make him an attractive rental option.

“Bell certainly qualifies as a competent first baseman,” Elman notes. He has maintained remarkable durability, on track to appear in at least 140 games for the eighth consecutive season (excluding the 2020 COVID-19 year, where he played 57 of 60 games).
