Miguel Rojas envisions a future in the dugout
As the Los Angeles Dodgers make their push toward the postseason, conversations around the team’s future are heating up. One name that has surfaced in these discussions is Miguel Rojas, a veteran presence who not only contributes on the field but also serves as a crucial leader in the clubhouse. With a .286 batting average in September, Rojas has continued to prove his worth, helping guide the defending champions as they navigate the season.
Aiming for a managerial role
In an insightful chat with Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain, Rojas opened up about his aspirations beyond his playing career. The 36-year-old shortstop expressed a strong desire to transition into a managerial role once his time on the diamond comes to an end.
“One hundred percent. That’s one of my goals,” Rojas stated. “I want to coach. I want to put my input and the whole experience I have playing this game to work. Learning from coaches and my teammates, playing alongside some of the best in the game for a long time, I feel like I could have a critical opportunity to help the next generation, and even the generation that we have right now.”
Rojas’s commitment to remaining involved in the sport is evident. He emphasized his intention to remain connected to baseball, stating, “I don’t want to get away from the game. I want to stay in the game for as long as I have an opportunity, and I’m looking forward to doing that.”
Leadership on and off the field
Beyond his ambitions as a future manager, Rojas is known for his leadership qualities. Often the one raising a toast during team dinners, he has earned the respect of both his teammates and coaches alike. While he plays the role of the wise veteran, he has also demonstrated that he is much more than just a mentor. His contributions on the field, particularly in the face of adversity, have solidified his value to the team.
Rojas faced a challenging start to the season, struggling with a .184 batting average in his first 14 games. However, he rebounded in April and May, despite a dip to a .171 batting average during that month. Since then, he has consistently maintained a batting average above .250, showcasing his resilience and ability to adapt.
Defensive prowess
Rojas’s defensive skills further bolster his case for a future in coaching. He ranks in the 90th percentile for Outs Above Average, a testament to his superior fielding ability. This skill has been especially vital for the Dodgers, who have grappled with depth issues in their defense this season.
As Rojas continues to make an impact both on and off the field, his vision for the future remains clear. He is prepared to embrace whatever role he can take on, with the hope of guiding the next generation of players, ensuring that his love for the game endures long after his playing days are over.
