Marlins Make Waves with Samuel Vasquez Signing
The Miami Marlins have made a surprising move by signing former Washington Nationals minor league reliever Samuel Vasquez, according to reports from MiLB Central on X (previously known as Twitter). The announcement was also shared on MiLB Central’s Instagram, where Vasquez confirmed the news by updating his bio to reflect his new status as a Marlins reliever. Although the Marlins have not issued an official statement regarding the signing, the deal reportedly includes an invitation for Vasquez to participate in Major League spring training.
Vasquez’s Journey in the Minors
Samuel Vasquez has not yet made his Major League debut but has been honing his skills in the minor leagues since he began his professional career in 2018. Over the last two years, he has spent significant time with the Washington Nationals organization. In 2024, Vasquez joined the Nationals’ system, where he began at Class-A Fredericksburg. His performance there saw him earn a promotion to High-A Wilmington just four months into the season.
During that season, Vasquez showcased a solid performance, finishing with a 6-2 record and a 4.05 ERA. He demonstrated his ability to close out games as he recorded four holds and converted six of eight save opportunities. His statistics reflect a promising prospect: he struck out 53 batters while walking 41, and opponents managed a .234 batting average against him.
A Look Ahead
As the Marlins prepare for the upcoming season, Vasquez’s addition to the roster could represent a valuable opportunity for the aspiring reliever. With spring training on the horizon, he will aim to make a significant impression and potentially carve out a place for himself within the Marlins’ bullpen.
