Luke Weaver might cross the Subway line as Mets aim to snag Yankees’ star pitcher in offseason shake-up

Mets Eyeing Yankees’ Luke Weaver for Offseason Boost

The rivalry between the New York Yankees and New York Mets runs deep, a narrative steeped in history and passion that fuels the Subway Series each season. As both teams strive for dominance in the Big Apple, the upcoming offseason could ignite this fierce competition further. The spotlight is now on Yankees pitcher Luke Weaver, who is set to hit free agency and may be eyeing a move across town.

Weaver’s Future Uncertain

Weaver has spent the last three years in the Bronx, carving out a niche as a reliable pitcher for the Yankees. However, as an unrestricted free agent this offseason, whispers of a potential new home have begun to circulate, with the Mets emerging as a possible destination. During a recent interview on “The Show,” a podcast by the New York Post featuring Joel Sherman and Jon Heyman, Weaver expressed his thoughts about his future and role as a pitcher.

A Versatile Career Path

Originally a starting pitcher for eight seasons, Weaver has transitioned to a reliever during his time in New York. Despite the shift in roles, he remains open to returning to starting duties when he signs his next contract. “Being a starting pitcher, honestly, has got to be the best job in the big leagues, especially when it’s going well,” Weaver stated. Yet, he acknowledges the unique skills he’s developed as a reliever, saying, “I just found this niche… and use my background of starting to channel it into how I pitch now.”

Looking Ahead to Free Agency

As the offseason approaches, Weaver is reportedly keen on exploring rotation opportunities. This creates a tantalizing prospect for the Mets, who could benefit from adding a seasoned pitcher like Weaver to their roster. With his experience and versatility, he could be a valuable asset as the Mets look to strengthen their pitching staff.

The question now lingers: will the Mets make a serious play for Weaver as they seek to bolster their chances for the upcoming season?
