Eugenio Suárez deal could ignite Pirates’ offense in shocking free agent power move

Pittsburgh Pirates Eye Eugenio Suárez as Key Free Agent Signing

The Pittsburgh Pirates are gearing up to make a significant splash in the free agency market, and one name stands out as a potential game-changer: Eugenio Suárez. As the offseason unfolds, discussions around the Pirates’ needs have intensified, with many pointing to the third baseman as an ideal target for bolstering their lackluster offense.

A Perfect Fit for the Pirates

Mark Feinsand of MLB.com recently highlighted Suárez as the quintessential free agent signing for the Pirates. The analysis underscores the team’s pressing requirement for offensive firepower. Feinsand noted, “All signs point to the Pirates spending some money in free agency this winter, and given their need for offense, adding a two-time All-Star who slugged 49 home runs last season would be an ideal place to start.”

While Suárez’s defensive metrics at third base are not stellar, the Pirates could also explore opportunities to utilize him as a designated hitter, maximizing his offensive capabilities while mitigating his defensive shortcomings.

What Suárez Brings to the Table

Acquiring Suárez would signify a monumental upgrade for the Pirates’ lineup. Since 2018, only five players have hit more home runs than Suárez, who has consistently demonstrated his power-hitting ability. Remarkably, throughout his career, he has never recorded fewer than 21 home runs in a season where he played over 100 games. To put this in perspective, the Pirates’ leading home run hitter last season was center fielder Oneil Cruz, who managed just 20 home runs.

The Pirates faced significant challenges at the plate during the previous season, struggling to generate consistent power. As a team, they managed a mere 117 home runs, underscoring the critical need for an established slugger like Suárez to help revitalize their offense.

A New Era of Offense?

If the Pirates secure Suárez, it could herald a new era for their offense. His proven track record as a power hitter could inspire a much-needed change in the team’s offensive dynamic. By tapping into Suárez’s capabilities, Pittsburgh aims to not only enhance its home run tally but also create a more potent lineup that could compete more effectively in the upcoming season.

As the offseason progresses, all eyes will be on the Pirates and their pursuit of Suárez—a move that could very well shift the trajectory of their franchise.
