David Ross ignites buzz: potential Atlanta Braves manager after Cubs exit

Date:

David Ross Sparks Speculation as Potential Atlanta Braves Manager

The MLB offseason often brings a flurry of managerial changes, as struggling teams seek fresh leadership to rejuvenate their rosters. However, the Chicago Cubs find themselves in a different position. With Craig Counsell stepping in as the new manager after taking over from David Ross—who held the role from 2020 to 2023—there’s little unrest in the Windy City. Counsell’s arrival has been met with enthusiasm, but it has also led to renewed interest in Ross, particularly from one notable team eyeing a new direction.

Ross’s Legacy in the Windy City

David Ross is more than just a former manager; he is a beloved figure in Cubs history, revered for his pivotal role in the team’s 2016 World Series victory as a player. His tenure as manager was marked by respect and admiration from fans and players alike. Although his record as a manager was not disastrous, the Cubs’ front office opted for a change, believing Counsell could steer the franchise toward greater success.

Since his departure, Ross has largely kept a low profile. However, his name has resurfaced in discussions about potential managerial openings, with particular attention on one team in particular.

Atlanta Braves: A Potential Fit

The Atlanta Braves have emerged as a leading candidate for Ross’s next managerial chapter. In a recent statement, Ross expressed his desire to manage again, naming Atlanta as a team he would love to lead. “I’d love to manage again. Obviously, Atlanta would be amazing, but there’s nothing to really elaborate on,” he remarked. His openness to the opportunity indicates a genuine interest, albeit with a cautious approach.

Jon Heyman, a respected MLB insider, has added fuel to the speculation, suggesting that Ross could indeed find a place with the Braves. During a recent Bleacher Report live stream, he acknowledged the possibility, stating, “Ross to manage the Braves? Yeah, Ross has a shot there. I do think David Ross is a possibility for the Braves.”

Cubs Fans’ Mixed Emotions

For Cubs fans, the prospect of Ross joining the Braves is a complex one. While many would prefer their former manager to remain in the National League, there is also a sense of pride in his potential return to the game. Ross’s contributions to the Cubs franchise, both as a player and manager, have cemented his legacy, and many fans would be supportive of his ambitions, especially since the Braves are not a direct rival.

The Braves, with their talented roster and recent championship pedigree, represent an enticing opportunity for Ross. If he does secure the position, Cubs fans can take solace in knowing that their former manager is still making an impact in the league, albeit in a different uniform.

In this ever-evolving landscape of baseball management, the journey of David Ross continues to capture attention. Whether he ends up leading the Braves or exploring other avenues, his next chapter promises to be just as engaging as his time in Chicago.
