David Ortiz erupts with praise: Roman Anthony is Boston’s $130M face of the franchise!

David Ortiz Raves About Roman Anthony as Boston’s Future Star

Roman Anthony’s debut with the Boston Red Sox may have been cut short, but his impact in just 71 games was undeniable. The organization’s faith in the young prospect was solidified when they signed him to an impressive eight-year, $130 million contract extension in August, shattering the record for the most guaranteed money awarded to a rookie. Despite an oblique injury that sidelined him for the final month of the season, many within the franchise believe Anthony was the most valuable position player for Boston throughout the year.

High Stakes for a Young Star

As the Red Sox look ahead to next season, all eyes will be on Anthony to spearhead their offense from the outset. The pressure to deliver a complete season of 162 games is significant, yet one legendary figure from the franchise sees a bright future for him.

David Ortiz Backs His Young Successor

In a recent appearance on the “Fenway Rundown” podcast, former Red Sox designated hitter and 10-time All-Star David Ortiz did not hold back in expressing his faith in Anthony. He confidently declared Anthony as the “face of the franchise” and insisted that the hefty price tag attached to the contract was more than justified.

“When you have a guy that talented, that young, and that mature, that’s the full package,” Ortiz remarked. “You know you have a face of the franchise. A guy like him, you know your money is worth it. That’s why we gave him that big deal out of the gate, right away, because he’s worth that much.”

A Family Connection

This weekend, Anthony is attending Ortiz’s “Weekend with Papi” charity golf event in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Ortiz took the opportunity to share his admiration for Anthony, recalling their earlier meeting in Boston.

“I got to meet him, with his parents this year,” Ortiz shared. “What a beautiful family. He has a brother he just looks like. His mom and dad are proud parents right now. I would be too. His mentality and his focus, it’s not from a 21-year-old guy. Trust me.”

Embracing Expectations

Anthony’s potential is not just recognized by Ortiz; he has garnered high expectations from various influential figures within the Red Sox organization. As anticipation builds for next season, all indications suggest that Anthony is poised to rise to the occasion and embrace the challenges ahead. The Red Sox and their fans will undoubtedly be watching closely as he embarks on this pivotal stage of his career.
