Cubs’ playoff chase continues as Owen Caissie’s concussion adds to Chicago’s injury woes in race against Brewers

Cubs’ Playoff Chase Intensifies Amid Injury Troubles

The Chicago Cubs find themselves on the brink of securing a playoff spot in the National League, yet the road ahead is fraught with challenges. Currently, they are locked in a fierce battle with the Milwaukee Brewers for the NL Central division title. Following the latest round of games, the Cubs trail the Brewers by 5.5 games, necessitating not only their continued success but also assistance from other teams to surpass Milwaukee, who boasts the best record in Major League Baseball at 91-59.

Injury Concerns Mount for the Cubs

As the Cubs strive for postseason glory, they are grappling with a growing list of injuries to key players. Notably, Kyle Tucker is sidelined with calf tightness and is awaiting clearance to return from the 10-day injured list. Meanwhile, Pete Crow-Armstrong faced a health scare last week due to a knee contusion but has since made his way back to the lineup.

Adding to the team’s woes, the Cubs announced another injury on Sunday. Outfielder Owen Caissie has been placed on the 7-day injured list following a concussion sustained during Saturday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.

Owen Caissie’s Injury Details

The Cubs confirmed that Caissie suffered the concussion after colliding with the outfield wall while attempting to make a catch. Jesse Rogers reported that the 23-year-old rookie’s condition deteriorated throughout the game, ultimately leading to his exit.

It’s a tough break for Caissie, who has only been in the majors for a brief 12-game stint since his promotion from Triple-A Iowa on August 14. In that time, he has struggled at the plate, posting a .192 batting average, a .222 on-base percentage, and a .346 slugging percentage, with one home run and four RBIs to his name.

Next Steps for the Cubs

In response to Caissie’s injury, the Cubs have called up 23-year-old Kevin Alcantara to fill the void in the outfield. As the team looks to maintain momentum in their playoff pursuit, the hope is that Alcantara can provide a spark and help the Cubs navigate through this challenging phase as they continue their chase for a division title.

With injuries mounting, every game becomes critical, and the Cubs will need to rally together to keep their postseason aspirations alive.
