Costa Rican authorities intensify investigation into Brett Gardner’s son’s tragic death

Months have passed since the untimely death of Miller Gardner, the 14-year-old son of former New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner. In a significant development, Costa Rican authorities conducted a raid on Thursday at the hotel where Miller was found dead, furthering the ongoing investigation into the circumstances of his death.

The Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort in Manuel Antonio, the site of this tragedy, became the focal point of law enforcement’s scrutiny. According to an autopsy conducted in April, Miller Gardner’s death was attributed to carbon monoxide poisoning, prompting a deeper dive into the safety measures and potential negligence at the resort.

Purpose of the hotel raid

The raid, which lasted approximately three hours, was executed by agents from Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ). Prosecutor Kenneth Alvarez, overseeing the case, indicated that this was the first formal search of the hotel since initial inquiries were made shortly after Miller’s death on March 21. Authorities sought to collect further evidence linked to the carbon monoxide exposure that claimed the young boy’s life.

“The initial visit was focused on measuring toxic substances at the site,” Alvarez explained. “Today’s proceedings were designed to gather more substantial evidence.”

Three pickup trucks filled with investigators arrived at the resort, where they searched the hotel’s offices, including management, maintenance, and accounting areas. The aim was to retrieve both physical and digital evidence that could shed light on the situation surrounding Miller’s death.

Ongoing investigation and support for the Gardner family

As the investigation unfolds, it is centered around potential allegations of manslaughter, although no arrests have been made to date. Throughout the process, authorities have maintained consistent communication with the lawyers representing the Gardner family in Costa Rica, underscoring the seriousness with which this case is being treated.

In an effort to bolster their investigation, Costa Rican officials are also collaborating with an FBI attaché stationed in the country, hoping to leverage additional resources and expertise.

Miller Gardner’s tragic fate has raised serious questions about the safety protocols in place at the resort. As the investigation continues, authorities are committed to uncovering the truth behind this heartbreaking incident, providing the Gardner family with the answers they seek.
