Chris Paddack returns to Detroit Tigers after bereavement leave with hopes to boost pitching staff for 2025 season

Chris Paddack rejoined the Tigers after bereavement leave to enhance pitching depth for the upcoming season

The Detroit Tigers made a significant roster adjustment on Saturday afternoon, welcoming back right-handed pitcher Chris Paddack from bereavement leave, as reported by local sources. To accommodate Paddack’s return, the team optioned outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy to Triple-A Toledo.

A Brief Absence for Personal Reasons

Paddack’s return comes on the heels of a brief hiatus from the game, during which he took three days off to attend to a family matter following a death in the family. The veteran reliever was last seen in action on Tuesday, where he contributed to the Tigers’ bullpen before stepping away. Now, after taking time to grieve and be with his loved ones, Paddack is set to rejoin his teammates.

Paddack’s Challenging Season

The 2025 season has posed challenges for Paddack, who has struggled to find his rhythm on the mound. Prior to his trade to the Tigers, he compiled a 4.95 ERA over 111 innings with the Minnesota Twins. His performance had raised questions, but the Tigers are optimistic that his return can bolster their pitching staff as they look to improve in the latter part of the season.

Looking Ahead

With the Tigers aiming to solidify their roster, Paddack’s experience and capabilities are crucial. The team hopes that the combination of his talent and renewed focus will contribute positively as they navigate the remaining games of the season. His return is anticipated not just for immediate impact but also as part of a broader strategy to enhance the pitching rotation for the future.
