Bryan Woo on the Comeback Trail as Mariners Eye Deep Playoff Run

The Seattle Mariners faced uncertainty regarding Bryan Woo’s availability for the postseason due to a lingering pec issue. However, the young right-hander is now on the comeback trail, providing a glimmer of hope for the team.

Bullpen Session Sparks Optimism

On Thursday, Woo took a significant step forward by throwing a bullpen session in Seattle, with hitters standing in to simulate game conditions. The session reportedly went well, leaving the Mariners optimistic about his progress. While it’s unlikely he will pitch during the American League Division Series (ALDS), Woo could make a return if the Mariners manage to advance further in the playoffs.

Woo shared his thoughts on the session, noting that he felt good about his performance but emphasized the importance of taking it day by day. “It’s more about building up correctly and less about the pec being an issue,” he said. He acknowledged that he is not yet where he wants to be in terms of game speed but expressed eagerness to see how he feels next week.

An All-Star Season

Woo’s return would mean a lot for the Mariners, especially given his standout performance during the regular season. The 25-year-old was an All-Star, boasting a commendable 2.94 ERA and a 15-7 record. His consistency has made him one of the most reliable starters in baseball, routinely pitching six innings while minimizing damage to the scoreboard. Over the course of 186.2 innings, he struck out 198 batters and issued just 36 walks, showcasing his impressive command on the mound.

Mariners’ Playoff Aspirations

The Mariners’ deep rotation is a significant factor in their status as serious World Series contenders. Woo’s potential return would add another layer of strength to an already formidable pitching staff. As the Mariners prepare to open the ALDS against the Detroit Tigers on Saturday, the prospect of Woo contributing to the postseason run becomes increasingly tantalizing.

With each victory, the Mariners inch closer to realizing their championship dreams, and if the stars align, Woo may yet play a pivotal role in their journey. As the team rallies for what they hope will be a deep playoff run, the spotlight remains on Woo as he navigates his recovery.
