Braves bolster bullpen with Díaz arrival and Seabold recall as Brebbia exits amidst roster reshuffle for Cubs series

Braves Reinforce Bullpen with Key Additions Ahead of Cubs Series

The Atlanta Braves are shaking up their roster yet again as they gear up for a series against the Chicago Cubs at Truist Park. In a flurry of moves aimed at strengthening their beleaguered bullpen, the Braves have brought in two right-handed pitchers while parting ways with two others.

Díaz and Seabold Join the Ranks

The Braves have officially activated Alexis Díaz, who was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Dodgers, and recalled Connor Seabold from Triple-A Gwinnett. These transactions come in the wake of a disappointing performance over the weekend, during which the Braves’ pitching staff allowed double-digit runs in two separate games.

Díaz has struggled this season, posting a 7.80 ERA in 15 appearances. His time with the Dodgers saw him record a 5.00 ERA in five outings. Prior to joining Los Angeles, he spent his first three years with the Cincinnati Reds, where he began to build his major league experience.

Seabold, acquired from the Tampa Bay Rays last month, has made just one appearance for Atlanta, allowing two runs over 1 1/3 innings against the Chicago White Sox on August 19. However, he has shown promise at Triple-A, sporting a 3.52 ERA in five games and providing the Braves with a potential long relief option.

Roster Changes: Muñoz and Brebbia Exit

In corresponding moves, the Braves have optioned prospect Rolddy Muñoz back to Gwinnett and designated John Brebbia for assignment. Muñoz, ranked as the Braves’ No. 18 prospect, made an impressive Major League debut last week, tossing two scoreless innings in relief. However, his recent outings were marred by inconsistency, culminating in a rough performance on Sunday where he surrendered five earned runs in just 1 1/3 innings.

Brebbia’s second stint with Atlanta comes to a close following a difficult outing on Saturday, where he allowed four runs in two innings. Over three appearances this season, he posted a 9.64 ERA, giving up five earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. The decision to DFA him creates necessary space for the fresh arms in the bullpen.

Looking Ahead: Cubs Series on the Horizon

As the Braves prepare for their upcoming series against the Cubs, they are hopeful that these roster adjustments will provide a much-needed boost. The first pitch on Monday is scheduled for 7:15 p.m., with Bryce Elder set to take the mound for Atlanta. This series marks the beginning of a homestand that will also feature a matchup against the Houston Astros later in the week.

With the pressure on, the Braves will look to turn the tide and regain their footing in the hunt for postseason success.
