Brandon Nimmo’s $162M contract makes him a prime trade candidate as Mets face offseason shake-up in 2026.

Mets’ 2026 Roster Overhaul Looms Amid Trade Talks for Brandon Nimmo

The landscape of the New York Mets could undergo significant transformation by 2026. Following a disappointing season that saw them fall short of postseason play, the organization is poised to make pivotal adjustments to its roster. As the winter months approach, the Mets find themselves at a crossroads, not only needing to fill critical gaps but also facing the potential loss of key contributors.

Key Players on the Move

Among the notable names potentially departing is Pete Alonso, who has exercised his option to test free agency. He is joined by Edwin Diaz, another cornerstone of the roster, who also has a player option for the upcoming season. With the uncertainty surrounding these key players, the Mets will undoubtedly be active on the free-agent market, seeking to infuse talent into their lineup.

However, it’s not just free agency that the Mets are exploring. Trade discussions are expected to heat up as the front office evaluates its options over the next few months.

Brandon Nimmo: A Trade Candidate?

One player who has consistently contributed to the Mets’ success is Brandon Nimmo. Coming off an impressive season, Nimmo appeared in 155 games, hitting a career-high 25 home runs while driving in 92 runs. His offensive prowess has not gone unnoticed, and it could make him an attractive asset for teams looking to bolster their rosters.

During a recent livestream with Bleacher Report, insider Jon Heyman highlighted the possibility of the Mets trading Nimmo. “You could trade Nimmo, who’s pretty average defensively in left field, outstanding in the clubhouse, great hitter. But I could see [him getting traded]. His contract is tradeable,” he stated.

Understanding Nimmo’s Contract

Nimmo is currently in the midst of an eight-year, $162 million contract signed in December 2022, with five years remaining. His annual average value (AAV) of $20.25 million is considered manageable, and if the Mets decide to move him, they could secure a solid return given his proven capabilities at the plate.

As the offseason unfolds, the Mets’ front office will need to navigate a complex landscape of potential trades and free-agent acquisitions. With Nimmo’s skill set and contract position, he stands out as a prime candidate for a trade, potentially reshaping the Mets’ roster for the seasons to come.
