Braves’ Nacho Alvarez Shines in Arizona Fall League Action
The Atlanta Braves are witnessing a resurgence from one of their former prospects as infielder Nacho Alvarez Jr. is making waves in the Arizona Fall League. Over the course of 16 games, Alvarez has showcased his talents, hitting .293 with an impressive .904 OPS. He has also contributed significantly with one home run and nine RBIs.
Standout Performance
Alvarez’s latest outing was nothing short of spectacular. In a thrilling matchup against the Mesa Solar Sox, he collected five hits, drove in two runs, and crossed home plate three times. Despite his heroics, the Glendale Desert Dogs fell just short, losing 10-9. This performance marks a pivotal moment in Alvarez’s fall league campaign, demonstrating his ability to deliver when it counts.
His opportunity to shine comes in the wake of an injury to Austin Riley, allowing Alvarez to step in at third base. During his brief stint in the majors this season, he played 58 games, posting a batting average of .234 and a .626 OPS, with two home runs—both of which were notable milestones in his career, being his first two home runs, achieved in a multi-home run game against the Detroit Tigers in early September.
Alvarez’s recent success in the Arizona Fall League may have secured him a platoon role with the Braves, and with the extra playing time, he aims to surpass 100 games played this season. While the fall league cannot fully compensate for his missed opportunities earlier this year, it provides a valuable platform for him to refine his skills.
Clohisy Stealing the Show on the Basepaths
Meanwhile, outfielder Patrick Clohisy is making headlines for his remarkable speed. So far in the Arizona Fall League, he has stolen 17 bases, averaging nearly one steal per game. This impressive total puts him in a tie for the league lead with Orioles prospect Enrique Bradfield Jr.
Clohisy’s speed is no surprise to those familiar with his game. Last season, he stole 79 bases on 96 attempts across 131 games while playing for High-A Rome and Double-A Columbus. His ability to take the extra base adds another dimension to his playstyle, complementing a solid .373 on-base percentage during the fall league.
Having participated in Spring Training last year, Clohisy is expected to build on this fall league performance with additional opportunities in North Port come spring.
As these players continue to develop their skills in the Arizona Fall League, their performances could significantly influence their roles within the Braves organization moving forward.
