Atlanta Braves confront uncertain future as managerial changes loom

The Atlanta Braves’ 2023 season has not unfolded as they had hoped. With a disappointing 65-81 record, they find themselves languishing in fourth place in the National League East, trailing even the Miami Marlins. Injuries have plagued the team, sidelining key players such as Austin Riley, Sean Murphy, Ronald Acuña Jr., and Spencer Strider. Adding to their woes, the bullpen has struggled to perform, contributing to an offense that has been inconsistent at best.

Managerial crossroads for Brian Snitker

As the season draws to a close, manager Brian Snitker faces uncertainty regarding his future. Currently in the final year of his contract, Snitker has yet to sign an extension and appears conflicted about his next steps. He may choose to continue managing or transition into a different role within the organization. As the Braves evaluate their direction, the search for a potential successor is already generating buzz.

Intriguing candidates emerge for the managerial position

In a recent discussion about possible offseason changes, ESPN’s Buster Olney highlighted several names as potential candidates for the Braves’ managerial position. Among them is former Chicago Cubs manager David Ross, who could provide a fresh perspective on navigating the team through a challenging phase. Ross, who led the Cubs from 2020 to 2023, boasts a division title from 2020 and carries with him a familiarity with the Braves, having played for the organization from 2009 to 2012.

Olney also mentioned several other intriguing candidates, including:

Walt Weiss: Currently the Braves’ bench coach, Weiss has a solid understanding of the team’s dynamics and could seamlessly step into the managerial role.

Mark DeRosa: An MLB Network analyst with past ties to the Braves, DeRosa’s insights and experience could be valuable in a leadership position.

Skip Schumaker: The 2023 NL Manager of the Year, Schumaker is currently working in the Rangers’ front office. His recent success in managing would make him a compelling choice for the Braves.

As the offseason approaches, the Braves’ front office will need to carefully consider their options. The potential for a managerial shake-up could lead to significant changes within the organization as they attempt to reclaim their status as a competitive force in the league. Fans will undoubtedly be watching closely to see how this situation unfolds.
