Angels’ top prospect Samuel Aldegheri climbs the ladder in Triple-A move as he eyes major league return

Angels Promote Top Pitching Prospect Samuel Aldegheri to Triple-A

The Los Angeles Angels are making a noteworthy move in their minor league system, promoting left-handed pitcher Samuel Aldegheri from Double-A to Triple-A. This advancement follows a successful stint with the Rocket City Trash Pandas, where Aldegheri established himself as one of the team’s standout performers.

Impressive Performance in Double-A

Aldegheri’s numbers in Double-A speak volumes about his potential. Over the course of 128.1 innings, he posted a solid 3.72 ERA while racking up 110 strikeouts. This level of performance has earned him the chance to climb the ranks, and the Angels are optimistic about what he can bring to the next stage of his career.

Though Aldegheri did not make the Angels’ Opening Day roster, his early season experience in Triple-A was followed by a brief but challenging appearance in the majors. In 4.1 innings of relief, he struggled, finishing with a 10.34 ERA, prompting the organization to send him back to Double-A for further development.

A Focus on Development

Recognizing the need for patience, the Angels opted for a careful approach, allowing Aldegheri to refine his skills in the minors. Since returning, he has demonstrated significant growth and confidence, positioning himself for another opportunity with the major league club.

MLB Pipeline currently ranks Aldegheri as the Angels’ No. 14 prospect. Given his age and potential, there’s a strong possibility he could ascend higher in the rankings as he continues to develop. Earlier this month, team insider Rhett Bollinger highlighted Aldegheri’s resurgence after a difficult June.

“After a rough June, Aldegheri turned it around by going 3-0 with a 2.52 ERA in 25 innings in July and 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA in 31 2/3 innings in August,” Bollinger noted. Altogether, Aldegheri’s season in Double-A has seen him compile a 3.78 ERA alongside 104 strikeouts and 56 walks over 121.1 innings.

Future Prospects with the Angels

While Aldegheri does not boast overwhelming velocity, he is projected as a reliable backend starter. His development is timely, especially considering the Angels’ current pitching depth issues. Left-handed pitcher Tyler Anderson is likely to miss the remainder of the year due to an oblique strain, leaving a gap that Aldegheri could potentially fill.

Recently, fellow lefty Mitch Farris was called up from Rocket City instead of Aldegheri, but the door remains open for Aldegheri to earn another shot at the major leagues. The Angels could be positioning him for a return next season, allowing him the opportunity to further hone his skills in Triple-A and prepare for a strong showing in the spring.

As Aldegheri embarks on this new chapter, the Angels and their fans will be watching closely, hopeful that their top prospect can translate his minor league success into major league contributions in the near future.
