Shayna Hubers, the Kentucky woman convicted of murdering her boyfriend in a fit of jealousy, is reportedly looking for love again—from within prison walls. Hubers, now 33, was sentenced to life in 2018 after being found guilty of shooting Ryan Poston six times in 2012. Poston was allegedly on his way to a date with Miss Ohio, Audrey Bolte, when Hubers shot him in what two separate juries ruled as cold-blooded murder, rather than self-defense as she claimed.
From her prison cell, Hubers has joined WriteAPrisoner, a platform connecting inmates with pen pals. Her profile paints her as a changed woman, claiming she’s “grown much” since her arrest and is seeking a man who will “see past” her criminal record and embrace the woman she has “become.” Hubers is not new to relationships behind bars—she previously married a transgender woman, Unique Taylor, in a jailhouse ceremony, although the relationship ended within seven months.
Despite her conviction, Hubers remains defiant, calling her case a “false conviction” manipulated for “television ratings.” She shared a series of photos on her profile, some taken from within prison, and described herself as a “tall and thin brunette” with “big steel blue doe eyes” and a “wide, bright smile.” Hubers has also expressed hope for freedom, with parole eligibility set for 2032, and is currently seeking legal assistance to appeal her case.
Details from the murder trial painted a disturbing picture of Hubers’ behavior post-shooting. In her police interrogation, she danced around the room, singing, “I killed him, I killed him,” and told police she’d “given him the nose job he always wanted” by shooting him in the face. The jury found her explanations chilling rather than remorseful, leading to a life sentence.
