Novak Djokovic is set to make his final appearance in a few hours as he aims to win the Olympic gold medal and achieve the Career Golden Slam. The Paris Olympics, specifically the Philippe Chatrier of the Roland Garros Stadium, will provide the ideal setting for the momentous showdown between the Serbian champion and the up-and-coming Carlos Alcaraz, who has been dominating this season. This highly-anticipated challenge is expected to make tennis history.
During the press conference following his victory over Lorenzo Musetti in the semifinals, the Serbian superstar analytically discussed his upcoming match and acknowledged that Alcaraz is the frontrunner due to his recent accomplishments. Djokovic emphasized his determination to give his all in order to secure the gold medal at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
“I do not consider myself the favored player on Sunday, as Alcaraz has proven to be the world’s best player at the moment. He emerged victorious at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, where he defeated me in the final convincingly. He has reached the final here in Paris without dropping a single set. I have also achieved the same feat, but I believe that his current style of play definitely makes him the favorite. Nevertheless, the Olympics present a challenge for everyone.”
“It has been a while since we last faced each other on clay. I believe the only time we played here was in last year’s Roland Garros semifinal. I feel like a different player compared to my performance at Wimbledon, both in terms of my movement and shot execution. This is not to diminish his triumph in the Wimbledon final; he was dominant and deservedly won. However, I now have greater confidence in myself and my chances of victory in the final,” explained Djokovic.
This dream has been long cherished and ardently pursued. Competing in the Olympic Games final has been a personal aspiration for me. It is a tremendous privilege and honor to represent my country on a global stage, and I deeply appreciate this opportunity. Serbia will undoubtedly claim a medal on Sunday!!!
