Novak Djokovic has given insight into his plans for life after tennis, particularly after his father, Srdjan Djokovic, leaked some of his retirement intentions. Djokovic, now 37, is still playing at the highest level, having just added an Olympic gold medal to his already impressive résumé. While the Serbian legend could even extend his career until the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, he is already considering his future beyond professional tennis.
Ahead of his match at the Shanghai Masters, Djokovic expressed his deep connection to the sport and his intention to remain involved in tennis even after he retires. He mentioned, “Even when I retire from professional tennis, I feel like I’m going to stay in tennis, stay involved in different roles because I feel like I owe this sport a lot for what it has given me.”
Djokovic’s father, Srdjan, recently revealed that Novak plans to return to live in Belgrade, Serbia, when his tennis career comes to an end. Despite owning properties around the world, including luxury homes in New York, Monaco, and Marbella, Djokovic seems intent on settling back in his homeland.
With a remarkable career that includes 24 Grand Slam titles, Djokovic still remains motivated, but his focus is gradually shifting towards the next phase of his life. While his father has hinted at his return to Serbia, Djokovic’s involvement in the tennis world after his retirement could take many forms, be it coaching, mentoring, or helping grow the sport globally.
For now, fans can continue to enjoy Djokovic’s brilliance on the court, but his plans for the future make it clear that his influence on tennis will persist long after his playing days are over.
