Brewers Prepare for NLDS Without Woodruff

The Milwaukee Brewers are facing a challenging postseason ahead, beginning with their National League Division Series (NLDS) against the Chicago Cubs. The absence of ace pitcher Brandon Woodruff looms large, as the team grapples with the prospect of competing without one of their most reliable arms.

Woodruff’s Struggles and Injuries

Brandon Woodruff’s season has been a roller coaster. Coming off shoulder surgery, he made his long-awaited return in July, quickly proving to be a key component in the Brewers’ starting rotation. Unfortunately, just as the team geared up for the postseason, another setback struck. Woodruff was placed on the 15-day injured list on September 21 due to a moderate right lat strain, effectively sidelining him for the remainder of the regular season.

Despite this misfortune, the Brewers managed to secure a first-round bye, granting Woodruff and the rest of the roster some much-needed rest. However, the extra time off wasn’t sufficient for Woodruff to recover in time for the NLDS against the Cubs.

Manager’s Update on Woodruff’s Status

In a recent update, Brewers’ interim manager Pat Murphy confirmed that Woodruff will not be available for the upcoming series. “Brandon Woodruff will not pitch in the NLDS,” Murphy stated. However, there is a silver lining; the lat strain is unrelated to his previous shoulder surgery. This distinction raises hopes that Woodruff could still make an impact later in the postseason, should the Brewers advance.

Looking Ahead: The Challenge of the Cubs

While the Brewers remain optimistic about Woodruff’s potential return for the National League Championship Series (NLCS) or even the World Series, they must first overcome the Cubs. Chicago boasts a resilient roster, one that has proven capable of seizing opportunities. After a week off, the Brewers will need to shake off any rust and be prepared for a fierce battle against their division rivals.

As the Brewers embark on this postseason journey without Woodruff, the focus will be on rallying their remaining pitchers and harnessing their collective strengths to navigate the challenges ahead. The road to the championship is never easy, but with determination and strategy, the Brewers aim to keep their World Series dreams alive, despite the setback of losing their ace.
