Moreno’s Decision Leaves Washington in the Dark

Ron Washington, the former manager of the Los Angeles Angels, found himself blindsided by the franchise’s decision to part ways with him, as owner Arte Moreno did not engage in any conversation regarding his future before the announcement.

In the final week of the season, Washington expressed his desire to connect with Moreno, hoping to discuss his role and the team’s direction. “I was hoping I’d get to see Arte Moreno this homestand, but he hasn’t made it here yet to the game,” Washington noted, revealing his frustration to Sam Blum. “I just want to sit down and talk baseball with him. I’ll let them decide if I’m the guy to lead the club.”

Angels Move Forward Without Discussion

Ultimately, the Angels opted to move on from Washington for the 2026 season, a decision made public on Tuesday. Washington reflected on the abruptness of the situation, stating, “I have to accept that. I can’t go back to argue with them to try and tell them different when they’ve made a decision. We were starting to perform better.”

During his tenure, Washington led the Angels for two seasons, but his time was marred by challenges that included a significant absence for personal reasons. Despite these hurdles, Washington believed that the team was beginning to find its footing, hinting at a sense of optimism that was abruptly cut short by management’s decision.

A Season of Transition

Washington’s departure signifies a pivotal moment for the Angels as they search for their next leader. The lack of communication from Moreno raises questions about the decision-making process within the organization and the importance of dialogue in maintaining relationships with coaches and players alike.

As the Angels prepare for the future, Washington’s experience and knowledge of the game will undoubtedly be missed, but the franchise now looks ahead, hoping to find a direction that aligns more closely with their aspirations.
