Ashton Jeanty slashes through defenses with Myers-like stance as Raiders rookie finds comfort and success in upright form

Date:

Ashton Jeanty embodies the upright style reminiscent of Michael Myers as he thrives with the Raiders

Ashton Jeanty is turning heads in Las Vegas, and not just for his skills on the field. The rookie running back for the Raiders has drawn comparisons to the iconic horror character Michael Myers, and it all stems from his strikingly upright running posture.

A Unique Stance

During his standout college career at Boise State, Jeanty became a household name, finishing as the runner-up for the Heisman Trophy. His distinctive upright stance set him apart from traditional running backs, leading to the eerie comparison to Michael Myers. This unique alignment allowed him to navigate defenses in a way that few others could.

When the Raiders selected Jeanty with the sixth overall pick, expectations soared. However, offensive coordinator Chip Kelly encouraged him to adapt to a more conventional stance—knees bent and lower to the ground—during his initial games. Jeanty complied for a short while, but ultimately, he returned to his signature upright form.

Statistical Surge

The results were telling. After transitioning back to his Myers-like setup, Jeanty’s performance skyrocketed. According to Underdog Fantasy, he averaged a mere 49 yards per game while adjusting to the traditional stance. However, once he reverted to his comfortable posture, he exploded for 155 total yards against the Chicago Bears.

While the narrative surrounding his unique stance is compelling, it’s essential to recognize that the story runs deeper. Before Week 4, Jeanty had accrued 101% of his rushing yards after contact, highlighting a significant challenge: he often met defenders right at the line of scrimmage. The struggles of the Raiders’ offensive line played a crucial role in his initial difficulties.

A Path Forward

As Jeanty continues to embrace his natural running style, the potential for improvement is clear. The law of averages suggests that his situation must improve, especially with the combination of returning to a comfortable stance and the hope that the offensive line can provide better support.

In the ever-evolving landscape of the NFL, Jeanty’s journey illustrates the importance of finding one’s rhythm. With his unique approach and adaptability, the Raiders rookie is poised to thrive, making waves in the league as he embraces his individual style.
