Kansas City, KS – Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Kansas Speedway ended in absolute fireworks. A double-overtime finish saw Denny Hamlin shove Bubba Wallace into the wall on the final lap, only for Chase Elliott to dive under both and steal the victory.
The Setup: Wallace vs. Bell
On the second overtime restart, Bubba Wallace and Christopher Bell went wheel-to-wheel for the lead. Coming off Turn 4, Wallace squeezed Bell, and the two cars drifted wide. Both drivers lifted to regain control, giving Hamlin a massive run from behind.
By the time the field hit Turn 2, Wallace was out front, Hamlin had moved into second, and Bell had been shuffled back.
The Move: Hamlin Doors Wallace
Charging into Turn 3 on the final lap, Hamlin went low, drove it deep, and slid up into Wallace’s door. The contact shoved Wallace into the outside wall, killing both drivers’ momentum.
Wallace’s radio lit up after the race:
“He’s a dumbass for that.”
The move effectively ended Wallace’s shot at the win — and set up the wildest finish of the season.
The Steal: Elliott Takes It All
As Hamlin and Wallace slowed from the collision, Chase Elliott saw daylight. The Hendrick Motorsports driver dove under both cars, charging off Turn 4.
Coming to the checkered, Elliott and Hamlin rubbed doors — but Elliott had the edge by less than a car length.
It was Elliott’s second win of 2025, a clutch performance that locked him into the next round of the NASCAR Playoffs.
