Cowboys lean on George Pickens in CeeDee Lamb’s absence against the Packers

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is expected to miss three to four weeks due to a high left ankle sprain sustained during last Sunday’s defeat to the Chicago Bears. Lamb entered that game riding high, having recorded consecutive 100-yard receiving performances to kick off the season. His injury occurred in the first quarter, with 8:34 remaining, as he took a handoff and was met by Bears linebacker Noah Sewell. The collision twisted Lamb’s ankle and forced him to the sideline for 14 plays before he returned for the start of the second quarter, albeit noticeably hindered.

After the game, Lamb expressed his desire to rejoin his teammates as soon as he regained strength and mobility. However, the medical staff decided to keep him out of action for the time being.

George Pickens steps up for the Cowboys

With Lamb sidelined, attention now shifts to George Pickens as the Cowboys prepare to face the Green Bay Packers. Dallas acquired the former Pittsburgh Steelers standout with the hope that he would not only serve as a reliable No. 2 receiver, but also possess the capability to elevate his game to a No. 1 role.

Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones spoke highly of Pickens during an appearance on 105.3 The Fan, assuring fans that the young wideout is ready to step up in Lamb’s absence. “George is a great football player, and I know he’ll step up and do a good job for us,” Jones said while discussing the upcoming matchup against Green Bay. “We’re focused on game to game, and certainly, we’re fortunate to have George.”

Jones also highlighted the contributions of other players like KaVontae Turpin, who has exceeded expectations with his explosiveness, and Javonte Williams, who has stepped up as well. “We just have to take each week as it comes, and it certainly starts with the Packers on Sunday,” he added.

Dak Prescott aims to increase Pickens’ role

Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott is eager to integrate Pickens more into the offensive scheme. The wideout has already been targeted nine times in consecutive weeks, and with Lamb’s absence, that number is likely to rise. The Cowboys will look to capitalize on this opportunity as they gear up for a pivotal game against the Packers, where Pickens could play a crucial role in filling the gap left by their star receiver.
