Steelers follow familiar travel misstep to Dublin as Rodgers wishes for earlier arrival to adjust and explore

Steelers Repeat Travel Misstep Ahead of Dublin Showdown

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ travel plans for their upcoming Week 4 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings in Dublin have sparked considerable debate this week. The team’s decision to leave for the game echoes a similar miscalculation made during their 2013 trip to London. Back then, Steelers defensive lineman Cam Heyward candidly acknowledged that departing on a Thursday was not the most beneficial choice for players and coaches alike. Unfortunately, the Steelers have opted for a similar timeline this time around.

Aaron Rodgers Voices Concerns

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers has expressed his disappointment with the current travel schedule. He shared his thoughts on the matter, wishing for a more accommodating itinerary. “I wish, you know, it is what it is, but if the schedule had been a little different,” Rodgers remarked. “If I could have chosen, maybe we get over on Monday, Tuesday is a day off, get to get out, see some things.” This sentiment underscores the importance of adjusting to the time difference, as well as providing players and coaches the opportunity to explore and enjoy their surroundings in Dublin.

The benefits of an earlier departure are clear. Players would gain extra time to acclimate to the local time zone, fostering improved performance on game day. Additionally, a leisurely arrival would enhance the overall experience of their trip.

Conflicting Reports on Departure Timing

Interestingly, there was speculation from Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette that the Steelers had initially hoped to leave earlier in the week. However, this request was reportedly denied by the league, though the reasons remain unclear. The NFL pushed back against this narrative, with vice president of football and international communications, Michael Signora, clarifying that the timing of travel is ultimately within the teams’ discretion. “It is up to each team to decide how early or late in the week it wants to arrive for an international game,” Signora stated. “Sometimes, those decisions are based on hotel and practice site availability.”

Vikings’ Arrival and Game Preparations

Both the Steelers and Vikings will find themselves in a level playing field, as Minnesota’s team arrived in Dublin on Friday. The Vikings have an additional international game scheduled in London the following week, which adds a layer of complexity to their travel arrangements.

As the game approaches, both teams will be looking to maximize their time and preparation, but the Steelers’ decision to follow a familiar travel pattern raises questions about their strategy in international play. The focus now turns to how well they will adapt ahead of what promises to be an exciting encounter in Dublin.
