Jets fans hold breath as Justin Fields clears protocol and eyes return to starting lineup against Dolphins

The spotlight was firmly on New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields this week as he worked to clear concussion protocols following his absence in the Week 3 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. With Tyrod Taylor stepping in as a replacement, the team eagerly awaited Fields’ return.

Practice Update on Fields

Head coach Glenn made it clear last week that the timing of players’ practices is a strong indicator of their readiness for the following game. He noted that if players haven’t practiced by Friday, it generally signals concerns about their availability come Sunday. Just before Thursday’s practice, Glenn provided an update on Fields’ status.

“Justin will be practicing, but he’ll still be going through the protocol,” Glenn stated, emphasizing the need for caution in the recovery process. This initial participation was a positive sign, but the true test would come in how Fields performed during practice.

Full Participation Brings Optimism

As the week progressed, Jets fans received encouraging news: Fields was a full participant in practice. Reports from ESPN’s Rich Cimini on social media indicated that Fields is “definitely trending toward a starting nod” for the upcoming game against the Miami Dolphins.

Decision Time for the Coaching Staff

The decision now hinges on how well Fields recovers from practice. It’s essential to weigh his health against the performance of Tyrod Taylor, who nearly led the Jets to a comeback victory against the Buccaneers. With that impressive showing, Glenn and his coaching staff face a pivotal choice. If Fields is deemed 100 percent healthy, it seems likely he will reclaim his starting position for the Monday night matchup.

Offensive Consistency at Stake

While both Fields and Taylor have shown flashes of potential, the Jets’ offense has struggled to find consistency this season. Offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand has seen some production, but the team needs a more reliable performance moving forward. The question remains: who can provide that spark? Many believe it could very well be Fields, given his track record.

As the Jets prepare for their clash with the Dolphins, the anticipation builds among fans. The outcome of Fields’ return could significantly impact the trajectory of the team’s season.
