Packers Elevate Brant Banks, Raising Concerns About Zach Tom’s Status

The Green Bay Packers are set to make a significant roster adjustment that may signal trouble for starting right tackle Zach Tom. According to reports, the team will promote undrafted free agent Brant Banks from the practice squad to the 53-man roster. This move suggests that the Packers are seeking additional depth along the offensive line, particularly after Tom’s early exit due to injury in Week 3.

Injury Woes for Zach Tom

Tom has faced a series of setbacks this season. After suffering an oblique injury in Week 1, he was sidelined for the following game against the Washington Commanders. His return in Week 3, however, was short-lived, as he managed to play only one snap before being pulled from the game.

Head coach Matt LaFleur provided insight into Tom’s situation during a press conference. “I wouldn’t say he further reaggravated,” LaFleur stated regarding Tom’s condition. He emphasized the challenges of game situations, noting, “It’s always hard to simulate what you’re going to face in a game. You’d have to ask him, but I think that the force of the guy that he’s going against, it hurt him. He didn’t feel like he could go.”

Additional Concerns on the Offensive Line

Tom is not the only concern for the Packers’ offensive line, as guard Aaron Banks is also dealing with injury issues. Banks suffered a groin injury during Sunday’s game, which forced him to exit prematurely. This marks the second game he has missed this season due to injury.

With Tom sidelined and Banks struggling, Jordan Morgan stepped in at right tackle before shifting over to guard when Banks left the game. Anthony Belton then took over the right tackle position for the remainder of the contest.

Looking Ahead

The Packers are expected to release their first injury report of the week on Wednesday, which should provide further clarity on the statuses of both Tom and Banks. However, the addition of Banks to the roster hints at a cautious approach, indicating that the team may not be optimistic about Tom’s immediate return to the field.

As the Packers navigate these injury challenges, the depth of their offensive line will be tested, impacting their performance as they move forward in the season.
