Max Scharping’s season-ending injury forces Steelers to audition five offensive line hopefuls for revival

Date:

Pittsburgh Steelers Explore Offensive Line Options Following Scharping’s Injury

The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively seeking reinforcements along their offensive line after the unfortunate loss of Max Scharping to an ACL injury. Scharping, a vital depth piece, is set to be placed on Injured Reserve, effectively sidelining him for the remainder of the season. In response to this setback, the Steelers have initiated workouts with five potential replacements, aiming to solidify their offensive front.

New Faces in the Mix

To bolster their roster, the Steelers have brought in a diverse group of players for workouts, all vying for a chance to contribute this season. The candidates include Karsen Barnhart, Chris Glaser, Sebastian Gutierrez, Lorenzo Thompson, and Leroy Watson. Each of these players brings a unique background and skill set to the table.

Profiles of the Prospects

Chris Glaser stands out among the group, having participated in eight NFL games since going undrafted in 2022. Initially signing with the Kansas City Chiefs, Glaser’s journey has seen him suit up for the New York Jets, Dallas Cowboys, and Chicago Bears. He boasts one start with the Jets, accumulating 84 offensive snaps and 15 special teams appearances.

Karsen Barnhart, who entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2024 with the Los Angeles Chargers, has a somewhat tumultuous history. He was signed and released multiple times from the Chargers’ practice squad before his eventual release. His experience in navigating the complexities of NFL rosters could serve him well as he seeks a fresh start.

The Road Ahead

With Scharping out of the picture, the Steelers are faced with the challenge of maintaining depth and performance on their offensive line. The auditions for these five players not only reflect the organization’s proactive approach but also underscore the importance of adaptability in the fast-paced environment of the NFL.

As the Steelers wrap up their week of practice, the decision on which candidates will earn a spot on the roster remains crucial. The team is determined to find the right fit to ensure their offensive line remains a formidable unit as the season progresses.
