Andre Szmyt’s Injury Scare Forces Browns to Search for New Kicker

The Cleveland Browns are facing a critical moment ahead of their Week 3 matchup against the Green Bay Packers, with kicker Andre Szmyt’s status in doubt. After Week 1, many fans clamored for a change at the kicker position, and while Szmyt remained on the roster for Week 2, he did not miss any kicks. However, that performance was overshadowed by a crushing defeat at the hands of the Baltimore Ravens.

Injury Concerns Mount

Head coach Kevin Stefanski provided an update that has raised eyebrows among the Browns’ faithful. During Friday’s practice, Szmyt “felt something” in his left calf, prompting concerns about his availability for the upcoming game. Stefanski indicated that if necessary, the team is prepared to sign a replacement to ensure they have a reliable kicker against the formidable Packers.

The injury woes don’t stop with Szmyt. Punter Corey Bojorquez is also dealing with his own setbacks after sustaining an injury when his punt was blocked in the previous game, resulting in a collision during the follow-through. With both specialists potentially sidelined, the Browns’ special teams unit is facing a significant challenge.

Time is of the Essence

As it stands, the Browns have yet to secure replacements for either Szmyt or Bojorquez. The window for making roster changes is tight, with just over 24 hours remaining before the team ideally needs to finalize their lineup. If no new players are signed by midday Saturday, it could signal that both specialists are fit to play. Still, given the stakes of the upcoming game against the Packers, it would not be surprising for the Browns to err on the side of caution and bring in new talent.

Facing the Packers is daunting enough, and the Browns will need every advantage they can muster, especially if their kicking game is uncertain. In a league where every point counts, the pressure is mounting on Cleveland to respond swiftly to their special teams crisis.
