Tampa Bay Buccaneers anticipate Chris Godwin’s return as star receiver targets October comeback

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers find themselves once again without their standout wide receiver Chris Godwin as they prepare for their Week 2 matchup against the Houston Texans on Monday night. Godwin, who is still on the mend from a dislocated ankle he sustained last October, is edging closer to a return, but his absence will be felt on the field.

Godwin’s Road to Recovery

Godwin’s injury last season cut his campaign short after just seven games, and while there was optimism surrounding his recovery, his absence has extended into the early part of this season. After being activated from the physically unable to perform list in August, hopes were high that he could make an early-season return. However, he was ruled out for a second consecutive game just recently.

Despite this setback, there have been encouraging signs regarding Godwin’s recovery. Reports indicate that he is still targeting a return in October, potentially making his comeback as early as Week 5, which marks the Buccaneers’ first game of that month.

Recent Developments in Practice

This past week brought some positive news for the Buccaneers and their fans. Godwin returned to practice on Thursday, marking his first participation since the regular season commenced. Although he was limited in his activity, the fact that he was on the field is a crucial step forward. He did not practice on Friday but returned for another limited session on Saturday before being officially ruled out for the upcoming game.

Head coach Todd Bowles expressed his optimism regarding the team’s injured players, highlighting Godwin’s participation in practice. “It’s great to see them out there. They were limited in practice, but they flew around and did the things we asked them to do,” Bowles noted, referring also to left tackle Tristan Wirfs, who is also on the comeback trail.

Looking Ahead

While Godwin’s return may not happen immediately, the Buccaneers are being cautious. Once he is cleared to play, he will likely be eased back into the lineup, especially after being sidelined for an extended period. However, expectations are high that he will resume his vital role in Tampa Bay’s offense as soon as he is ready.

As the Buccaneers navigate the early season without him, they remain hopeful that Godwin will soon be back on the field, contributing to their offensive strategy and adding depth to their passing game.
