Myles Garrett criticizes Browns’ effort after lopsided defeat to Ravens

In a disheartening afternoon for the Cleveland Browns, defensive end Myles Garrett expressed his frustration following a decisive 41-17 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. The expectation was high for the Browns to deliver a competitive performance, but the reality at M&T Bank Stadium was far from it.

Garrett did not mince words in his postgame remarks, stating, “I mean, this s*** is embarrassing. We’ve got to be better on defense, we’ve got to be better as a team.” His candor highlighted a collective disappointment and a sense of urgency for improvement within the organization.

A Struggling Offense

The Browns’ offense struggled significantly throughout the game, only managing a meager three points by halftime. In the second half, their scoring woes continued, with the team adding just seven points in each of the third and fourth quarters. This lack of production contrasted sharply with the Ravens’ offensive display, which was both efficient and relentless.

Quarterback Joe Flacco contributed 199 passing yards and a touchdown, but his performance was marred by a turnover and two sacks, resulting in a passer rating of 65.0. The struggles of the offense left the Browns unable to mount any meaningful response against their divisional rival.

Defensive Breakdown

While the Browns’ defense managed to contain Ravens’ running back Derrick Henry to only 23 yards on 11 carries, they could not contain quarterback Lamar Jackson. Jackson carved up the Browns’ defense, throwing for 225 yards and four touchdowns, while also adding 13 rushing yards. His ability to exploit gaps in the defense led to a steady accumulation of points, forcing the Browns to play from behind.

“They slowly chipped away. We did a solid job holding it to three when we could,” Garrett acknowledged. “And then eventually the dam broke, and they just did whatever they wanted. We have to continue to play a 60-minute game.” His comments underscored the need for sustained effort and focus, an essential element for any successful defensive unit.

Looking Ahead

The Browns’ performance against the Ravens raises questions about the team’s resilience and ability to bounce back. As the season progresses, Garrett’s call for improvement serves as a rallying cry for the entire squad. The need for both offensive and defensive cohesion is paramount if the Browns are to turn their season around and compete effectively within their division.

With the pressure mounting, it remains to be seen how the team will respond in the coming weeks as they strive to regain their footing in a challenging NFL landscape.
