Jayden Daniels Faces Uncertainty Ahead of Week 3 Clash with Raiders

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels is currently grappling with a sprained knee sustained during the team’s Week 2 setback against the Green Bay Packers. The injury surfaced prominently after the game when Daniels was spotted with his knee heavily wrapped. However, he reassured his teammates, stating, “I’m straight,” as reported by sources close to the team.

Injury Status Remains Uncertain

As the week progresses, Daniels’ availability for the upcoming matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders hangs in the balance. Initially categorized as “uncertain,” the determination of his playing status will largely hinge on his participation in practice sessions throughout the week and whether he experiences any setbacks. With the game scheduled for Sunday, Daniels has the advantage of additional recovery time, which may prove crucial.

Typically, the Commanders will conduct a walk-through on Tuesdays, meaning that any official update on Daniels’ condition may not come until Wednesday. It’s anticipated that he may not participate in practices on Tuesday or Wednesday, with Thursday marking a pivotal day for gauging his readiness for the weekend.

MRI Results Reveal Sprain

NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport confirmed that Daniels underwent an MRI, which confirmed the diagnosis of a knee sprain. The timing of this injury leaves fans and coaches alike anxious about the potential impact on the team’s performance against the Raiders.

Backup Plans in Place

Should Daniels be unable to take the field, Marcus Mariota stands ready to step in as the starting quarterback. The former second overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft has experienced a tumultuous journey in the NFL, transitioning from college success to a series of team changes. Since joining the Commanders in 2024, Mariota has provided a steady veteran presence alongside Daniels.

If Mariota does start against the Raiders, it will hold additional significance for him, as he previously played for Las Vegas during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. His familiarity with the organization could provide a motivational edge should he be called upon.

Commanders Quarterback Depth Chart

1. Jayden Daniels
2. Marcus Mariota
3. Josh Johnson

In the event that Daniels cannot suit up for Week 3, Mariota will take the reins, with Johnson moving up from the emergency third quarterback position to serve as the backup. As the clock ticks down to kickoff, the Commanders will be closely monitoring Daniels’ progress, hoping for a swift recovery to bolster their chances against the Raiders.
