Panthers face offensive line crisis as injuries to Austin Corbett and Robert Hunt cast shadow over season prospects

The Carolina Panthers are grappling with significant injury setbacks on their offensive line following a tough loss to the Arizona Cardinals. The team’s hopes for a successful season have been dimmed by the potential absences of two key starters, center Austin Corbett and right guard Robert Hunt.

Injury Concerns Mount

In Week 2, the Panthers welcomed back left tackle Ikem Ekwonu, a boost that was short-lived as both Corbett and Hunt exited the game early due to injuries. Hunt sustained a biceps injury, while Corbett is dealing with an issue affecting his knee. Both players are scheduled for further evaluations, but early indications suggest that they may face extended time on the sidelines.

Hunt was notably seen with his arm in a sling post-game. He addressed reporters, sharing a cautious optimism about his condition. “I felt something in there, we’ll see tomorrow,” he stated, leaving the door open for a more positive prognosis.

Meanwhile, Corbett’s situation appears more troubling. He left the locker room visibly shaken and with a bag of ice on his knee. This injury is particularly concerning as it affects the same knee where he suffered a torn ACL during the 2022 season. Corbett, who managed to walk off the field, recalled his previous experience: “Football sucks, but I love this game so much. Just immediately, just staying positive. I don’t know. I just told the docs we’ll figure it out tomorrow, so get an MRI and go from there.”

A History of Injury Setbacks

Corbett has faced an uphill battle with injuries since his ACL tear, missing 13 games in 2023, including seven during his recovery. He participated in only five games in 2024. Should Corbett be unable to play, 2022 sixth-round pick Cade Mays is poised to step in, as he did on Sunday. For Hunt, Chandler Zavala would be the next man up, having already taken over when Hunt left the game.

As the Panthers gear up for the next phase of the season, the health of their offensive line will be critical. The absence of Corbett and Hunt could significantly impact the team’s offensive strategies and overall performance, casting a long shadow over their aspirations in the weeks to come.
