Mets make bullpen adjustments in quest to end losing streak against Phillies

The New York Mets find themselves in a precarious position, having suffered their fifth consecutive loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday. As the team’s aspirations for securing the NL East title grow dim, their grip on a Wild Card spot has tightened, now just two games ahead of both the San Francisco Giants and Cincinnati Reds.

Key roster changes ahead of pivotal game

In a bid to halt their downward spiral, the Mets made critical adjustments to their bullpen before the series finale against the Phillies on Thursday. MLB insider Anthony DiComo reported that the team has recalled right-handed pitcher Huascar Brazoban from Triple-A Syracuse while optioning fellow right-hander Justin Hagenman to the minors.

Brazoban’s season in review

At 35 years old, Brazoban has experienced a rollercoaster of a season, frequently moving between the minor leagues and the majors. His most recent stint in Triple-A concluded at the end of August. In 46 appearances at the big league level this season, Brazoban has showcased a commendable performance, boasting a 5-2 record alongside a 3.91 ERA and a 1.32 WHIP. He has also racked up an impressive 51 strikeouts over 53 innings, indicating his potential as a key contributor in the high-stakes game against Philadelphia.

Hagenman reassigned as Mets seek stability

Justin Hagenman, 28, has also had his share of ups and downs this season, having been brought up from Triple-A multiple times. However, the decision to option him reflects the Mets’ desire for more consistent performances as they battle to reclaim their momentum. With the stakes high and the pressure mounting, the Mets are hoping that Brazoban’s return can provide a much-needed jolt to their struggling bullpen and help them secure a crucial victory against a divisional rival.
