Zach Wheeler’s Recovery Takes a Hit
Zach Wheeler, the Philadelphia Phillies’ ace pitcher, has been sidelined since mid-August due to the discovery of a blood clot near his throwing shoulder. While the initial clot has been successfully removed, Wheeler now faces an additional hurdle before he can embark on his recovery journey—another surgery.
Setback in the Recovery Process
Phillies manager Rob Thomson addressed the media on Tuesday, shedding light on Wheeler’s situation. He confirmed that the additional surgery has not yet been scheduled, indicating that complications have arisen.
Tim Kelly of Pattison shared a clip where Thomson elaborated on the delay, noting that Wheeler’s recovery is hampered by the blood thinners he has been prescribed.
“There’s some reasons in there, I think they’re blood thinners,” Thomson explained. “I don’t know exactly, but there’s a reason why they have to wait.”
Impact on the Phillies
This setback means Wheeler, who was already expected to miss the remainder of the season, will continue to be unavailable to the Phillies as they push through the final stretch. The team now faces the challenge of competing without their ace, whose absence is felt deeply in both the pitching rotation and the clubhouse.
As the Phillies navigate this difficult period, they are left hoping for a swift resolution to Wheeler’s health issues so he can return to form and contribute to the team’s future aspirations.
