Dolphins face stormy seas with key injuries ahead of Patriots clash as Waddle’s status remains crucial

Dolphins navigate injury challenges ahead of pivotal Patriots matchup

The Miami Dolphins are gearing up for a critical clash against the New England Patriots, but they are facing significant injury setbacks that could impact their performance. Following a disappointing Week 1, the Dolphins have reported that six players on their active roster missed practice, raising concerns about their depth heading into Sunday’s game.

Injury Report Highlights

Among the players sidelined in Wednesday’s practice were cornerback Storm Duck (ankle), tackle Austin Jackson (toe), and defensive tackle Benito Jones (oblique), all of whom are new additions to the injury list. They join tight end Darren Waller, cornerback Ethan Bonner (hamstring), and running back Jaylen Wright (knee), who also missed the previous game against the Indianapolis Colts.

The Dolphins’ offense, in particular, is feeling the strain. Wide receiver Jaylen Waddle, who suffered a shoulder injury during the opener after landing awkwardly following a short reception, was listed as limited in practice. Waddle had four catches for 30 yards in the 33-8 defeat at Indianapolis, making his potential absence a critical concern for Miami as they seek to rebound from their lackluster performance.

If Jones is unable to suit up against the Patriots, it could pave the way for rookie seventh-round pick Zeek Biggers to make his NFL debut. Biggers was inactive in the Colts game, and while his opportunity may be limited, the Dolphins will be keen to see what he can contribute.

Coach’s Perspective

Head coach Mike McDaniel expressed cautious optimism about the situation, stating he was preparing as if Jackson would not be available against New England. However, there was some positive news on the injury front, as running back De’Von Achane and wide receiver Tyreek Hill were both removed from the injury report after dealing with calf and oblique issues, respectively.

Patriots Face Their Own Challenges

The New England Patriots are similarly navigating injury woes as they approach the matchup. Their Wednesday practice report noted four players who did not participate, including starting cornerback Christian Gonzalez, who has been sidelined for over a month, and pass rusher Harold Landry III, who tallied 2.5 sacks in the Patriots’ opening day loss to the Las Vegas Raiders.

Additionally, starting right tackle Morgan Moses (foot) and defensive end Keion White (illness) were also absent from practice. The Patriots did have some limited participants, including wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, who led the team in receiving yards against the Raiders, along with linebackers Christian Elliss and Marte Mapu.

As both teams prepare for this essential divisional battle, the injury reports are likely to play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome. The Dolphins, in particular, must rally together to overcome their challenges and find a way to secure their first win of the season against a familiar foe.
