Ja Morant pledges to reclaim his explosive form for Memphis fans

The Memphis Grizzlies are gearing up for a season filled with promise, especially with their star point guard, Ja Morant, ready to return to his electrifying best.

A Transformative Journey Since Draft Day

Since being selected second overall in the 2019 NBA Draft, Morant has been at the heart of the Grizzlies’ aspirations to build a championship contender. His dynamic play helped propel the team to back-to-back seasons with over 50 wins, securing the No. 2 seed in the playoffs. However, despite the regular season success, the Grizzlies fell short in the postseason, leaving many fans yearning for the thrill of those exhilarating games.

In the 2021-22 season, Morant dazzled on the court, averaging 27.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. His shooting splits of 49.3% from the field, 34.4% from three-point range, and 76.1% from the free-throw line earned him recognition, finishing seventh in MVP voting, being named to the All-NBA Second Team, and winning the Most Improved Player of the Year award. That season felt like a launching pad for Morant, who seemed poised to dismantle any defense that dared to challenge him.

A Shift in Playing Style

However, last season saw a noticeable shift in Morant’s approach. He adopted a more cautious style of play, a decision he openly discussed. After a December game against the Dallas Mavericks, Morant candidly shared, “I’m not trying to dunk at all. Y’all think I’m lying. I’m dead serious.” This statement highlighted a departure from the high-flying, fearless athlete fans had come to adore.

Signs of the Old Morant Emerging

The narrative began to shift again toward the end of the 2024-25 season. Following a significant coaching change for the Grizzlies, Morant’s explosive play began to resurface. As the season progressed, he started to embrace his aggressive playing style once more, hinting at a revival that fans had been eagerly anticipating.

Eager for a Dominant Return

As Morant prepares for the upcoming season, the excitement surrounding his potential return to form is palpable. Memphis fans are hopeful that the player who once electrified arenas with his jaw-dropping dunks and playmaking ability is set to make a triumphant comeback. With Morant back in his element, the Grizzlies could once again become a formidable force in the NBA.
