Von Miller’s relentless drive fuels Commanders’ defense as he edges closer to NFL all-time sack leaderboard legends
Von Miller, a name synonymous with defensive prowess, is on an unwavering path towards the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Despite being cut by the Buffalo Bills this offseason, he chose not to hang up his cleats just yet. Instead, the veteran linebacker seized a new opportunity with the Washington Commanders.
A Fresh Start in Washington
In their season opener against the New York Giants, Miller took the field for approximately 40% of the defensive snaps. As he prepares for a Thursday night showdown with the Green Bay Packers, he’s eager to increase his contributions on the field.
“I’ll be three years removed from tearing my ACL in November,” Miller shared. Reflecting on his past, he noted, “I tore the same ACL when I was 24 years old, and I guess I thought it would recover at the same speed it did then, but that wasn’t the case. Now I feel good, feel strong, ready to help this team win.”
The Passion for the Game
At 36 years old, Miller remains a formidable force, relentlessly pursuing quarterbacks. His decision to continue playing, rather than retire, stems from a profound love for the game. “I just love football, man. I love all aspects about it. I love practice, watching film, being in the locker room with the guys,” he explained. “I guess if I got bored, I might want to do something other than this, but so far I haven’t. I just love it.”
Chasing History
As Miller continues to make his mark, he currently sits at 16th on the NFL’s all-time sacks leaderboard with 129.5. He is just three sacks shy of catching legends Lawrence Taylor and Leslie O’Neal. Moreover, he trails John Abraham by four sacks and is 6.5 sacks behind Jared Allen.
A target on the horizon: if Miller can notch 8.0 sacks this season, he would find himself tied for 10th place in NFL history alongside Richard Dent and John Randle.
Miller’s relentless pursuit of excellence not only elevates his own legacy but also strengthens the Commanders’ defense, making him an invaluable asset as he continues to chase greatness in the league.
