49ers Revamp Roster with Key Moves Amid Injury Challenges

The San Francisco 49ers have made significant changes to their roster, parting ways with veteran wide receiver Robbie Chosen, previously known as Robbie Anderson. As per the latest NFL transactions, Chosen was released from the practice squad, marking a notable shift for the team.

Roster Changes and Injury Updates

In addition to Chosen’s departure, the 49ers have officially cut kicker Jake Moody and signed wide receiver Kendrick Bourne. They have also placed star tight end George Kittle on injured reserve, highlighting the team’s ongoing struggle with injuries. Although these moves had been reported earlier, they are now confirmed.

Chosen, a former 1,000-yard receiver, did not make the 49ers’ final roster during training camp and instead began the season on the practice squad. The 32-year-old was inactive for the team’s Week 1 game, raising questions about his future with the organization.

Bourne’s Return to the 49ers

The acquisition of Kendrick Bourne comes at a crucial time, as the 49ers deal with multiple injuries among their pass-catchers. Kittle’s placement on injured reserve is a significant blow, and wide receiver Jauan Jennings is also nursing a shoulder injury, although it’s not expected to be severe. Additionally, quarterback Brock Purdy has been dealing with shoulder and toe issues, further complicating the team’s offensive strategy.

Bourne, who previously played for the 49ers from 2017 to 2020, enjoyed a productive stint in San Francisco, accumulating 137 receptions for 1,769 yards and 11 touchdowns. His last four seasons were spent with the New England Patriots, where he recorded 155 catches for 1,945 yards and the same number of touchdowns. In 2024, he concluded the season with 28 receptions for 305 yards and one touchdown.

His standout year came in 2021, when Bourne achieved personal bests with 55 receptions, 800 receiving yards, and five touchdowns. Given the current injury situation, Bourne could quickly find himself playing a pivotal role in the Niners’ offense.

The 49ers are navigating a challenging start to the season, but with these roster adjustments, they are positioning themselves to stay competitive amidst adversity.
