Zach Banner’s NFL Comeback with the Chicago Bears

After a prolonged absence from the NFL, offensive lineman Zach Banner is making a determined push to revive his professional football career. Recently, the Chicago Bears extended an opportunity for Banner to showcase his skills during a workout, marking a significant step in his journey back to the league.

A Familiar Face in New Surroundings

Banner, a fourth-round draft pick by the Indianapolis Colts in 2017, has had a tumultuous ride in the NFL. Despite being selected, he never took the field for Indianapolis. Instead, his first taste of NFL action came with the Cleveland Browns before he found his footing with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2019. Over three seasons in Pittsburgh, he appeared in 22 games, starting in two. However, his career hit a snag when he suffered a knee injury in 2020, which has contributed to a long layoff from competitive football.

The Long Road Back

The last time Banner graced an NFL field was in 2021, when he participated in seven games for the Steelers. His journey took a downturn when he was cut in March 2022, leaving many to wonder about his future in the sport. Undeterred, Banner has remained committed to his recovery, stating, “I have not retired… I’m simply just a bigger man who has needed more time to get past a devastating injury.” His focus has been on rehabilitation and training, aiming to return to peak form.

Before his recent workout with the Bears, Banner had an opportunity to impress the New York Jets in 2023, but ultimately did not secure a contract. His perseverance reflects his passion for the game and his desire to reclaim his spot in the NFL.

A New Chapter with the Bears

As Banner looks to join the ranks of the Bears, he brings with him a wealth of experience and a renewed sense of purpose. The last time he participated in competitive football was earlier this year, when he played nine games with the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL. This recent action may have helped him stay sharp and ready for this next opportunity.

With the Bears offering a chance for redemption, Banner is poised to make a significant impact if given the opportunity. His journey is a testament to resilience in the face of adversity, as he strives to overcome the challenges that have kept him away from the game he loves.
